Bordeaux’s Shy Sister Offers You Great Value In Bergerac.

Most people have heard of Bordeaux and know it is world famous for its quality wines. But few people know that only an hour away is a large region that grows the same grapes, uses the same viticultural techniques, and has similar soil as well as climatic conditions. In other words, the majority of the wines are really good, but because the region is not so famous the prices are much better.

Bergerac started producing wines with the arrival of the Romans. Today the main grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc for the reds and for the whites Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are the main varieties. They produce full bodied red wines, easy drinking soft everyday and reds capable of long aging potential. For the whites they have everything from dry medium bodied wines to a sweet wine called Monbazillac which is like Sauterne and half the price.

One lovely Chateau we enthusiastically endorse at First Choice Cellars is called Chateau la Besage Grand Cuvee. A lovely blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, has aromas of cherries, rose petals. Tobacco and a hint of espresso. Silky smooth and soft, a little spicy. This wine pairs perfectly with smoked meats, grilled meats and full flavoured cheese.

You can age this wine for 2-3 years or drink it now and at an affordable price around the mid $20 range.

Please ask how First Choice Cellars can introduce you to this and other wonderful products.
