From Italy with Love: First Choice Cellar’s Wine Dinner at La Cantina
On June 5th, La Cantina hosted an exquisite evening that delighted wine and food enthusiasts alike. The highly anticipated La Cantina Wine Dinner Event, organized by First Choice Cellars (wholesale wine sellers), proved to be an unforgettable experience.
Guests were treated to a sophisticated evening of wine and culinary excellence. The highlight was the presence of special guest Gian Luca Olivieri, who brought a touch of Italy’s authentic charm to the event. The ambiance was filled with lively conversations and laughter as attendees enjoyed the perfectly curated pairings and the warm, inviting atmosphere that made the night truly special!
Culinary Journey Through Italy
The evening commenced at 6:00 PM, with attendees eagerly gathering for a culinary taste of Italy.
Our special guest from Italy, Gian Luca Olivieri, works very closely with family-owned Italian wineries, which we poured throughout the night. Their relationship with the wineries goes back many years, as his father started the family business, Marco Olivieri.
During the event, Gina Luca spoke about each wine, and the chief of La Cantina explained the dish being served and how it was known to that region of Italy. Each course was meticulously paired with a wine that perfectly complemented the flavours of the traditional dishes, offering a symphony of taste that delighted the palate.
Primo Course: Calabria
The event began with the “Primo” course from the region of Calabria. Guests savoured Insalata di Polpo, a delightful combination of potatoes, celery, and octopus dressed with lemon, parsley, and olive oil. This dish was paired with the refreshing Tenuta Iuzzolini Belfresco, a wine that highlighted the freshness and complexity of the ingredients.
Secondo Course: Campania
The second course, “Secondo,” featured Filetto Aqua Pazza, a delicate fillet of white fish poached in fumetto with cherry tomatoes, white wine, and basil. The La Fortezza Aglianico DOCG served alongside this dish added a robust and elegant touch, enhancing the overall dining experience.
Terzo Course: Lazio
For the “Terzo” course, guests were transported to the region of Lazio with Cacio e Pepe. This classic spaghetti dish, featuring Pecorino cheese and black pepper, was paired with the Vigna Ferri Frascati Superiore DOCG. This wine beautifully balanced the rich, creamy flavours of the pasta.
Quarto Course: Tuscany
The “Quarto” course brought the bold flavours of Tuscany to the table with Cinghiale Chop, a grilled wild boar dish. The De’ Vasari DOCG Chianti Reserva accompanied this course, providing a rich and full-bodied wine that perfectly complemented the intense flavours of the wild boar.
Dolce Course: Piedmont
To conclude the evening on a sweet note, guests indulged in a Chocolate Hazelnut Torte from the region of Piedmont. This delectable dessert was paired with the Cantina Del Nebbiolo Moscato d’Asti DOCG, a wine that added a light and sparkling finish to the meal.
